The Prism of My Landscape

Linanhall Ars Centre - Castlebar - Community Gallery

November 2024

Throughout 2024 the Luisne artists have worked with their facilitator Noreen Lydon and artist Michael Gannon, exploring techniques inspired by light, land and sea. They also worked with Michael using photographic techniques that are over two hundred years old. By November the artists were ready to exhibit a collection of their new work.

This body of work was supported by the UPSTART 2024 programme and MSLETB.

Art has long been a means of expression for individuals with differing abilities, allowing them to communicate their thoughts, emotions and experiences in many different and unique ways, and through various mediums. This exhibition, featuring the work of Luisne artists is a celebration of the achievements of the participants. It serves to foster inclusivity and understanding within the community and to share the joy of creativity.

The artists are

Collette Moran, Geradine McDonagh, Mairead Coyne, John Walsh, Eoin Karney, Triona McEvaddy and Aisling Walsh.

About the Artists

Colette 's work is inspired by her passion for rainbows, with every colour including black and white applied like a magic trick..

Her love of the royals, jewels, textured cloths and ribbons, her knowledge of paint mixing and art history and national geographic is phenomenal.

She has titled all her works and there is a story behind her inspiration for each piece.

Geradine has a soft approach and is expressive with bold colours. She experiments with all techniques and mediums, enjoying simplicity. She takes her time, her work is rhythmical and with gentle guidance, her artistry shines through - an absolute trooper

Mairead has an amazing eye for colour and choses her tones carefully from the colour wheel. She has a delicate approach and talent for watercolours also. Her passion for detail and precision is something to be admired. Her work is as light as a feather…….not forgetting the chickens!!

John's passion for the landscape, for the farm and farm buildings is so evident. He has a wonderful architectural approach to his work,

using strong lines, he has a determined and inquisitive approach. He is passionate and constantly strives to improve his work, all the while having fun and having plenty of chats.

Eoin has serious determination and an expressive approach. His application of acrylic paint with an old brush and pallet knife is stunning.

He never stops! Unless there is a  shortage of paint! His work is strong, fierce, determined and vigorous. His landscapes and seascapes of his imagination come to life in front of us.

Triona has a beautiful delicacy with mixed media and pens. Her work is inspired by her own photos of cat’s , family, mountains and lakes, her splashes of colour are superb. She makes amazing work - A lady who is passionate and inquisitive - She has shone throughout the time we've spent together.

Aisling  has a gift for swift, speedy strokes and the use of multicoloured acrylic and pens, she never stops. Her willingness to try everything is wonderful.  She always  stays true to her style, while politely reminding you when she runs dry on paint…..which can be quite often .

A joy to work with …….they all are!
